Honda Racing Team – Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016

Honda Racing RA300 3.0 V12

Honda Motor Company Limited brought to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed one of the most immaculately prepared Post- War Grand Prix Cars that I have ever seen. Driven by Nobuhara Matsushita the 400bhp V12 48 valve 3 litre. The Lola based chassis was designed by Eric Broadley and based on a previous Lola Indianapolis 500 car, the T90. Lola Cars called the RA300 the “T130” It was driven by John Surtess to a first at Monza, the vehicle raced four times and that was its only win. Remarkably it was capable of spinning the rear tyres at 100 mph in third gear. With cylinder dimensions of 78.0 x 52.2 mm 2,993.17 cc, a target of 400-440 bhp @ 12,000 rpm was quoted. This vehicle was also known for its “Waterfall” exhaust system

The Race Team displayed a remarkable sensitivity and sympathy towards it and I spent one morning following them absolutely fascinated at the processes involved in bringing it to life, ready to travel up the hill.

I hope you enjoy the images below. Ray B
